Documenting a cross — a checklist for breeders

What information your buyers (and your future self) will thank you for recording.

Documentation is what separates a working breeder from a pollen chucker. The collectors who pay premium prices want — at minimum — to know what they're buying.

Per-strain record sheet

Working name & any aliases
Mother (full name, source, generation, S1 if known)
Father (same — even if a one-time stud)
Generation (F1, F2, BX1, S1, IBL, polyhybrid)
Direction of selection (yield, terpene, structure, etc.)
Notes on the original hunt (pop size, keeper score)
Approximate flowering time and stretch
Reported terpene direction
Date and location of the cross

Public-facing version

Not every internal record needs to be public. Most CannaForge breeders publish parents, generation, terpene direction, and finish time — and keep the deeper hunt notes in a private breeder log.
