Drying and curing make as much difference to final quality as the genetics or grow technique. Rushing either step is the most common avoidable mistake in cannabis cultivation.

Dry. Hang whole branches or fresh-trimmed buds in a dark room at 60°F (15°C) and 60% RH for 7–14 days. The slow dry allows chlorophyll to break down and harsh compounds to off-gas. Buds are 'dry' when small stems snap cleanly rather than bend.

Burp & cure. Place dried bud loosely in airtight glass jars (mason jars are standard) to ~75% full. Aim for 58–62% RH inside the jar — Boveda/Integra packs are the easiest way. 'Burp' (open the jar for 5–15 min) twice daily the first week to release residual moisture and ammonia smell. Once the burp doesn't reveal mustiness, slow burping to once weekly.

Cure time. 4 weeks minimum for noticeably smoother smoke. 8–12 weeks for what most growers consider 'finished' cure. Some heritage lines reward 6 months+ of cure — terpenes mature, harshness drops, complexity blooms.

What if my jar gets too dry?+
Add a 62% Boveda pack and let it rehydrate over 24–48 hours. Don't add water directly.
Can I dry faster?+
You can — but you'll sacrifice smoothness and aroma. Fast-dried flower is usable, not great.
