Selection pressure: how breeders steer a line

Every breeding decision is selection. When you flower 50 seeds, smoke 10 finalists, and pick the one to clone, you're applying selection pressure. Multiply that across generations and you've steered the line.

What breeders typically select for

• Yield — measured in grams per plant or per square foot
• Potency — total cannabinoid content
• Terpene profile — gas, fruit, floral, fuel, etc.
• Disease and mold resistance
• Finish time and stretch
• Bag appeal — color, density, frost coverage

Direction matters more than generation

A line stabilized at F5 for yield is not the same as a line stabilized at F5 for terpene. The number tells you stability; the direction tells you what you're getting. Always ask both.
