During this stage, plants are typically exposed to longer photoperiods (often 18+ hours of light daily in indoor cultivation), which keeps them in a growth-promoting hormonal state. Breeders and cultivators manipulate vegetative duration to optimize plant architecture, canopy structure, and biomass before triggering the flowering transition. Genetics significantly influence how quickly or slowly a plant progresses through vegetative growth, with some lines reaching mature vegetative size in 3-4 weeks while others require 8+ weeks.
