Mother Plants

Mother plants are established cannabis specimens maintained in vegetative growth and used as genetic stock for propagation. Breeders and cultivators select and clone from mother plants to preserve consistent genetics across multiple generations without genetic drift. A well-maintained mother plant produces cuttings that carry identical genetic material to the source, making her the foundation of stable breeding lines and commercial cultivation runs. Mother plants require ongoing care—proper lighting, nutrition, and environmental control—to remain vigorous and disease-free. Selection of superior mothers is critical in breeding programs, as weaknesses in vigor, rooting ability, or pest resistance can propagate through every cutting taken.
