Hybrid Vigor refers to the phenotypic and genotypic advantages observed when crossing genetically distinct cannabis parent lines, often resulting in offspring with enhanced growth rates, resilience, or cannabinoid expression compared to either parent. This phenomenon, known scientifically as heterosis, occurs because crossing reduces homozygosity and can mask deleterious recessive traits. Breeders have long documented that F1 hybrids—first-generation crosses between stable inbred or landrace lines—frequently display measurably stronger vegetative vigor, faster flowering, or higher yields than their parents. The effect is temporary; vigor typically diminishes in subsequent generations (F2, F3) as genetic recombination reintroduces homozygosity.
