Bulbous trichomes are glandular structures featuring a single large cell sitting atop a stalk, creating a distinctive bulb-like appearance under magnification. These trichomes are relatively rare compared to capitate-sessile or capitate-stalked varieties, and are commonly found on cannabis cultivars across various genetic backgrounds. Bulbous trichomes typically range from 50–100 micrometers in diameter and are thought to accumulate cannabinoids and terpenes, though their precise metabolic role remains an area of active botanical study. Their presence is often noted in breeding records and trichome surveys as a secondary or complementary morphology rather than the dominant trichome type on a plant's surface.

Breeders and cultivators monitor trichome type composition as part of phenotypic selection, though bulbous trichomes alone are not typically the primary breeding target. Lineage records and cultivation journals frequently document trichome profiles as data points for consistency, resin production potential, and plant vigor assessment across generations.
