This classification evaluates whether seeds display intact shells without cracks, discoloration, or visible damage—factors directly linked to germination potential and storage stability. Breeders and seed producers assess testa integrity as a quality control marker, since compromised seed coats can allow moisture infiltration, pathogen entry, or premature metabolic activity. Seeds with poor testa integrity may experience reduced viability over time, even under proper storage conditions.
