Grapefruit Undertone

Grapefruit undertone refers to citrus aromatics commonly associated with limonene and other volatile compounds that produce tart, slightly bitter, and tangy scent notes. This aroma is often detected in strains with Grapefruit, Citral, or Sour lineage genetics. Breeders working in citrus-forward families frequently report this undertone as a secondary or supporting aroma layer beneath dominant terpene profiles. The descriptor reflects the actual chemical composition rather than flavor intensity, making it useful for lineage tracking across breeding programs.

Cultivators and breeders select parent plants exhibiting grapefruit undertones to establish consistency in aroma phenotypes and to maintain citrus terpene expression across generations. This trait serves as a marker for identifying desirable chemotype stability in hybrid development.
