F1 heterozygosity refers to the genetic diversity present in first-generation hybrid offspring, where plants inherit different alleles from each parent at multiple loci. In cannabis breeding, F1 plants typically exhibit hybrid vigor—increased growth rate, resilience, and phenotypic uniformity compared to their parent lines. This trait results from crossing two genetically distinct, often inbred or stabilized parent plants. Breeders intentionally create F1 generations to leverage heterozygous advantages, though subsequent generations (F2+) typically show genetic segregation and increased phenotypic variation.
