Earthy Grass Notes

Earthy grass notes represent aromatic compounds commonly associated with fresh-cut vegetation and soil-derived terpenes in cannabis. This aroma profile often emerges from myrcene-dominant chemotypes and is frequently reported in landrace and heritage cultivars, particularly those with Sativa or Sativa-leaning lineages. Breeders working with strain families like Durban Poison, Thai, and Mexican heirlooms regularly encounter this terpene expression. The perception of grass-like character can vary based on harvest timing, drying conditions, and terpene preservation during post-harvest handling.

Breeders tracking earthy grass aromatics typically monitor myrcene and pinene ratios during phytochemical profiling. Understanding this terpene signature helps geneticists maintain heritage strain characteristics or deliberately introduce fresh, herbaceous notes into new F1 and F2 crosses.
